What The Hell Is Going On Here!!!!

Cafe Hayek has a great post today regarding reactions to COVID!' From the post at: https://cafehayek.com/2021/01/saying-goodbye-to-patron-mr-h.html Dogma 1: The spread of an infectious pathogen once on the loose in a globalized world can be, and must be, successfully halted until the arrival of a vaccine. Such a halting, the dogmatists devoutly believe, will happen if we humans alter our behaviors with sufficient discipline and in unquestioning obedience to public-health experts. Dogma 2: Protection from the pathogen  du juor  – today, SARS-CoV-2 – is life’s be-all and end-all. Every other goal is either to be ignored or severely discounted if pursuit of that goal is alleged – if only on the flimsiest of evidence or even on mere conjecture – to possibly interfere with humanity’s new Great Purpose, which is reducing as much as is physically possible the risk of exposure to the pathogen. Dying of the likes of cancer, suicide, drug overdose, or poverty is sad but acceptable; dying of

Harpers Ferry Redux

The events at the United States Capital Building yesterday (6 January 2021 for those reading this in the distant future) brought to mind an event that presaged the second American Civil War (the American Revolution was really the first). On October 16, 1859, John Brown and 21 followers seized the Federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. His goal was to start and arm a slave revolt in the hope of abolishing slavery in the United States. The raid became a prism that clarified and magnified the issues facing the United States over the issue of slavery in light of the collapse of the Missouri Compromise of 1820 and the Kansas and Nebraska Act of 1854. It may very well have been the event that lit the fuse on the powder keg issue that was slavery.   I believe that yesterday's events may be a case of "history not repeating, but rhyming". In the same way that the South realized following Harpers Ferry that sentiment in the North was an existential threat to its way of life,

What Do We Mean When We Label Each Other......?

I’m not the first person to use this visual, but here is my whack at showing the political spectrum.    I believe that the Cartesian Plane provides a good representation of the modern body politic, because you must account for the economic model to accurately differentiate the different political labels we use.    The “Y” axis represents the political dimension and the “X” axis the economic.    The interesting thing to me is that in the current paradigm, the Communist and Fascist are considered opposite (Left vs. Right).    While that is true in the economic sense, politically they occupy the same totalitarian space.   The conventional wisdom is that both the Fascist Party in Italy and the National Socialist German Workers Party (NAZI) in Germany are "conservative/right wing" movements.  This was a linguistic sleight of hand move pulled off by communists in the 30's, 40's, and 50's that became conventional wisdom in Europe and America. The reality is that both the

The World According to Sully

So Georgia elected a progressive neo-socialist communist and a Al Sharpton/Jeremiah Wright protégé preacher to the United States Senate, giving soon to be inaugurated President Elect Joseph Biden's party control of all three branches of the Federal Government.  Buckle up, Buttercup!!!!  Its going to be a bumpy ride........   Welcome to my blog!  This is where I will call 'em as I see 'em, and provide an outlet that those interested can come to see what I'm thinking about....  all three of you.     My best friend in high school's little sister, Li-Tigh,  had trouble pronouncing my name.  Wesley became Wes-sully, became Sully!  While visiting my parents this spring, my sister and I had some interesting and sometimes very animated discussions regarding the events of the day.  My Mom and Sister told me that I should write about politics and history so they could better understand the historical guideposts that I use to anchor my political and philosophical thoughts.
